The 2008 Video Music Awards

Impressions of this years VMAs:

Way to go Russell Brand for making your opening speech super political/pro-Obama, but I feel like he crossed the line...continually. He just kept talking about election stuff, which I'm all in favor for usually, but it felt kind of awkward in this setting. And also, talking about the Jonas Brothers' celibacy vow got a little raunchy at times! I was surprised MTV allowed it. I mean, good for him I guess for pushing the envelope, but it got a little lewd! Plus he keeps talking about masturbation, which just kind of makes me a little uncomfortable.

Katy Perry was naked. I know she always has some sort of wacky outfit on, but seriously, it's national television and you're singing a Madonna song: if you're going to be almost naked, at least do it in a cute way!!

Lindsay Lohan looked awkward in her white tuxedo vest and low slung loose black pants. They just looked ill fitting. And she was in NY for Fashion Week like, earlier today. Is she like, super-sonic fast, or something?

Chris Brown is really adorable. Rihanna is a lucky woman. But is it common knowledge that they're dating, because Russell Brand already mentioned it twice.

I wish the Jonas Brothers had sung a different song. It didn't sound very good! Maybe I'm just biased because I've only ever heard Burnin' Up.

Update: The cast of HSM, including V Hudge (who was performing on the Promenade today with Neutrogena's Fresh Faces concert series, and who therefor must also be super speedy) and Zac (looking gay gay gay as always), was unremarkable. Xtina, who they introduced, was looking pretty good for just having had a baby, and is always a pretty good singer.

Lauren Conrad and Chase Crawford were pretty to look at, but nothing else. I don't even remember what they said or who they introduced, and it happened like, 40 minutes ago.

Who's ever heard of that group that won best new artist? Tokyo something or other. And I think they actually spell it Tokio. Confusing.

BUT, the big news of the evening, Britney won 3 awards! Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, and Video Of the Year. All for "Piece of Me." And damn was she looking GOOD for someone who so little time ago was a hot mess.

What was the song Kanye sang? And I thought he said after last year that he would never perform for the VMAs again. He was put at a satellite venue for his performances, if you'll recall. I guess they had a high enough offer for him.

By the way, I missed part of the show because I went to the gym, so that's why there are chunks missing. Sorry! Good thing no one really cares about the VMAs over the age of 14. Honestly, I just didn't want to do my Film Theories reading!

Update 2: AH i just recognized the girl who was interviewing Russell Brand afterward. It was Kim, the lesbian from Cycle 5 of ANTM. I can't believe I recognized her. I think maybe it's a sign that I need to take a break from popular culture, or something.
Who am I kidding, that won't happen. But still, creepy.
