Two: I just got back from Pineapple Express (which I had actually seen back in May, as part of 466, with James Franco as special guest) and I really think it's the funniest of Apatow's movies. Well... it's hard to beat Superbad. But it's neck and neck. The physicality of the film is intensely funny, and I love Rogen as the straight man to Franco. Their relationship is so adorable. That's really all I can say. It's funny and touching. And Craig Robinson (Matheson, aka Darryl from The Office!) is amazing. He is really a great actor. All his roles are so different, and yet all are hilarious: the bouncer in Knocked Up, this, and of course Darryl. Of course Danny McBride is really the standout here. He hasn't been in much, but I really looked forward to all his appearances on screen. He definitely played a key role in the success of the film as a part of the "bromance" genre. It's actually really impressive how the film manages to bridge genres (comedy/stoner film with action movie).
I'd like to commend James Franco, however, on being really really funny and cute and not at all anything like his normal roles. I think you can tell that he's a really good actor by how well he can do comedy.
Anyway, just a few observations.
And also, Michael Phelps is a BEAST. I really hope he gets all 8 gold medals he's aiming for. And may I just say: "godDAMN." Now that is a body.
